## Product

Astradot is a new, Apache-Kafka-compatible streaming platform built from the ground up in Rust. Differentiators:

- **Disk-free architecture.** No disks anywhere in the system — data and metadata both live on object storage.
- **No third-party components.** No external coordination service, no external metadata store.
- **Unified data and metadata plane.** No distinction between data and metadata nodes.
- **Low latency on object storage.** A novel approach preserves single-digit-millisecond latency while leveraging object storage's elastic throughput.
- **Kafka 4.2 compatible.** Full support for modern consumer groups, share groups, and the new transaction V2 protocol.

## Deployment

At launch, Astradot will ship in two forms:

- **Serverless cloud** — fully managed, multi-region.
- **BYOC on Kubernetes** — deploy into your own AWS or Azure account.

Both forms will be available on AWS and Azure across multiple regions on day one.

## Roadmap

- **H1 2026:** production-ready release. Public benchmarks and comparisons with Apache Kafka, AWS MSK, Confluent, WarpStream, and Redpanda will be published at the time of release.
